Guide·Live stage
If your app is live and nobody is using it, check three things in this order: whether anyone can find it, whether what they find makes sense, and whether you have a way to reach the people it is for.
Below is the check we run first, and how to start a list of users with what you already have.
Can it be found?
1
Does Google show your app when you search its name in a private window? If Google cannot show it, people searching for it cannot find it.
2
Does the home page say, in the first line, who it is for and what it does?People decide in seconds whether it is for them.
3
Do links to it show a title, a line and an image when pasted into a chat or a post? Most links to a new app are shared in chats and posts.
4
For a mobile app: does the store listing have the screens, the one-line description and the right category? The store page is the home page of a mobile app.
5
Does each page have its own title that a person would click? The title is what people click in search results.
Does what they find make sense?
6
Can a new person do the one thing the app is for within two minutes, without you? Most new users leave before they ask for help.
7
Do you know where they stop? (analytics, a session recording, or three people watched)You cannot fix what you cannot see.
8
Is there a way for them to tell you what went wrong, inside the app?People who hit a problem usually leave without saying.
0 of 8 yes
Answer all 8 to see where you stand.
Start a list with what you have
1
The people you talked to about the idea.
2
Everyone who replied to your launch post, including the ones who were lukewarm.
3
The communities where you already asked for help: one useful post a week, not a pitch.
4
A single page where a person can leave an email, linked from the app.
