Bubble pages read 24 October 2026.
Bubble's own support article says it does not support code exports or self-hosting. You can take your data as CSV, JSON or NDJSON, read it through the Data API, and save the app as a file that only opens in Bubble. None of these gives you code that runs anywhere else. This page ends with a list you can fill in for your own app.
Can you export code from Bubble?
No. Bubble's support article says "We do not support on-premise self-hosting or code exports at this time" (page dated 29 July 2026, read 24 October 2026).
Your app runs on Bubble's platform and nowhere else. So leaving means the logic is made again in code. That is our reading of Bubble's line, not a Bubble quote. Bubble's MCP gives you no code either; the next section has the detail.
This matches our builder guide, which lists no code export for Bubble.
One person's account, not research: on 28 July 2026 a poster on r/Bubbleio asked whether Bubble is working on letting customers export the code of their deployed site.
What can you take out of Bubble?
Three things, and a fourth that looks like one.
If you searched "Bubble.io export", these are your options: your data, the Data API and the app file. The fourth, Bubble's MCP, lets an AI tool read your app. It moves nothing out.
| Take-out | What it is | What it doesn't give you |
|---|---|---|
| Data export | Each data type as CSV, JSON or NDJSON, sent as an email link | Your pages, workflows or code. File fields hold links; the files sit on Bubble's storage |
| The Data API | Off by default. You turn it on for each data type, and privacy rules apply. It lets other systems read and change your data | A list request can't go past the 50,000th record of a data type (higher on Bubble's top plan; see the next section). No workflows, no pages |
| The app file (JSON) | Paid plans only. Made for importing into another Bubble app | Doesn't run outside Bubble |
| Bubble's MCP | Connects an AI tool, such as Claude, Claude Code or Codex, to your Bubble account. It can read the app's outline, workflows and records (records only for data types an admin has opened up) | No code, and nothing moved off Bubble. Bubble says the result is a regular Bubble app and there's no generated code to read |

Your files sit on Bubble's file storage, and the database holds only a link (Bubble manual, Files). The pages we read describe no way to download your files in bulk. That is an absence on those pages, not a Bubble statement.
One user who tested the app file with an AI tool found that plugins were missing (Bubble forum, August 2026, thread 1126). That is one user's report.
How do you export your data from Bubble?
One data type at a time, from the editor, as CSV, JSON or NDJSON. Bubble emails you a link to download the file (Bubble manual, Exporting data, read 24 October 2026).
- Go to Data, then App data.
- Pick the data type.
- Set the view to match the list you want.
- Click Export.
- Choose the format.
- Open the link in the email Bubble sends.
Three notes:
- Many scheduled tasks can delay an export, because exports share Bubble's scheduler with API workflows.
- Date interval fields export as text, such as "2 days". Check them.
- A CSV opens in Excel or Google Sheets, so there is no separate Excel export.
The Data API lets other systems search, read, create, change and delete your data. It is off by default. You turn it on in Settings > API and expose each data type. Privacy rules apply.
It has a ceiling. In Bubble's Data API requests page, a list request can't go past the 50,000th record of a data type (10,000,000 on Bubble's Enterprise plan). A larger data type has to come out through the editor export.
The Bubble pages we read do not say which plans include the Data API. Check your own plan with Bubble before you rely on it.
What is Bubble's app file for?
It moves an app into another Bubble app, and it only opens in Bubble.
Bubble's support article says you can export the app as JSON, "optimized for importing into another Bubble application" (page dated 29 July 2026). The ability to import and export JSON is available only on paid plans, says Bubble's import article (dated 16 October 2025).
To bring a file into a Bubble app, go to Settings → General and choose "Import Application". Bubble says "Importing will overwrite the current version of your app with the uploaded file", and to make a Save Point first.
What users report, not Bubble:
- A user on Bubble's forum (22 April 2026, thread 392307) suggests taking the file, your data and screenshots of the main pages as the plan for a rebuild.
- One user on r/Bubbleio (14 November 2025) reports that Claude read the file and listed the database tables and workflows. Another in the August 2026 forum replies reports the same kind of read.
- One forum reply (August 2026, thread 1126) advises using the file for planning, not as direct build input.
Bubble's MCP, in the section above, is the other way to let an AI tool read the app.
What does moving off Bubble involve?
A rebuild: the logic is made again in code, then the data and files are moved and tested.
That is our view. What searchers call "migrate from Bubble to code" is this rebuild.
The routes people take, in our words:
- Data first. Move the database, and keep the app running while you decide.
- A full rebuild. Everything made again, then switched over.
- A split. The backend moved, the front end left on Bubble.
Help comes in four types. Each line is the type's own claim, not ours, and we name none of them:
- A rebuild service that remakes the app in code and hands over the repository. It says you need at least one engineer after handover.
- A data-move tool that says it moves your tables, records, option sets and files to another database. It also says the data move does not include logic or workflows.
- A front-end export tool that turns the rendered front end into static HTML. It says apps heavy on the backend are a limit.
- A freelancer or a team who does the move for you.
One person's account, not research: a founder on r/Bubbleio (1 March 2026) rebuilt their app in code after a cost shock and says it took months.
Do you need to leave Bubble?
Not always.
Some founders posting on Bubble's forum jobs board say they don't want a rebuild (topics 390029, 27 January 2026; 390500, 2 February 2026; 392953, 10 March 2026). Ask what problem leaving solves. Our guide, Keep, fix or rebuild your app, helps you decide. If you are still choosing a builder, our guide to choosing an AI app builder covers that.
If Bubble ever closed, Bubble's shutdown article says it would release its source code under an open-source license, so you could set up your own Bubble server (Bubble support, 8 December 2023, read 24 October 2026). That is a pledge for a shutdown, not an export.
A commentator who builds in Bubble and code (r/Bubbleio, 21 May 2026) says owning a codebase without a developer can be worse than a Bubble app with help. One person's view, not research.
What should you take before you decide?
Take these eight things out of Bubble before you decide anything else. Tick one box per row. Nothing is asked in return.
