A Lovable app has two bills. Pro is $25 a month for 100 credits plus 5 a day (Lovable's docs, read 24 October 2026). The second bill is making the app ready for real users. Sellers ask $2,500 to $15,000 for that (asking prices, not sales, from our cost guide).

How much does Lovable cost?
Lovable Pro is $25 a month, or $250 a year billed annually (about $21 a month), for 100 credits a month plus 5 build credits a day (Lovable's docs, read 24 October 2026).
Extra credits on Pro cost $15 per 50 (top-ups, read 24 October 2026). Lovable Cloud, the backend, has a monthly grant on the Free, Pro and Business plans, and use beyond it is billed by usage. That is bill one: the builder.
Our comparison: $25 a month is small next to the $2,500 to $15,000 sellers ask to get an app ready for real users (sellers' published prices, in our cost guide).

Do you keep paying once a Lovable app is built?
Your published pages stay live if you cancel or run out of credits. The backend is the part to watch (Lovable's cancel, out-of-credits and publish pages, read 24 October 2026).
A founder in a Lovable group asked on 5 July 2026: "do I need to keep the subscription all the time?" Another had heard they must pay "every month just to keep it launched and running" (30 July 2026). Each is one founder's account, not research.
- If you cancel. You move to Free, and Lovable says "Your published apps stay live on Free" (manage subscription). Your access setting is kept, so a public app stays public, and connected custom domains keep working (publish).
- If you run out of credits. "The pages of your published app keep serving." The backend (database, storage, login) runs on the monthly Cloud grant of 20 credits. It pauses only when that grant and your general credits are both gone. Daily build credits cannot pay for Cloud (out of credits).
- While it is paused. Your data is kept, but you cannot open or export it until the services run again. They do not restart on their own: once credits are back, select Wake up under More → Database. In-app AI calls fail meanwhile.
- On Free, with no custom domain. Lovable can unpublish a project after 12 months without visits or workspace-owner logins. It does not delete the project, code or data.
What does it cost to finish a Lovable app?
Sellers ask $0 to $500 to find out what can stay, $300 to $2,500 for a light fix, and $2,500 to $15,000 to get it ready for real users. A rebuild is $12,000 to $25,000 or more. These are asking prices, not sales.
| Step | What it covers | Sellers' asking price |
|---|---|---|
| Find out what can stay | A review or audit. Some are free. | $0 to $500 |
| A light fix | One bug, or one connection to another service. | $300 to $2,500 |
| Get it ready for real users | Login, data rules, payments, deployment, monitoring, tests. | $2,500 to $15,000, most $5,000 to $15,000 |
| A partial or full rebuild | When the prototype can't be kept. | $12,000 to $25,000+ |

This is the market's range, not ours. Founders' own stories show how it plays out.
On r/lovable on 11 January 2026, a founder wrote: "I spent $6k trying to 'finish' my Lovable app." They paid $2k for a month of work that became three, then $4k more. On the same forum on 16 October 2025, a founder wrote that a friend "burned through $200 in Lovable credits" and still had half a first version. A Replit builder's review on Trustpilot (20 August 2026) tells the same story: a budget of "around $1,000" became "nearly $6,000, and the project is still not complete". Each is one person's account, not research.
One founder on r/vibecoding (24 December 2025) said they would "pay 600bucks to hire a dev to fix my vibe coded mess". It is one person's account, not research. $600 sits at the low end of the light-fix row; sellers ask far more to get an app ready for real users.
To keep what works and finish the rest, see Finish and Launch. Who to hire is in Hiring someone to finish your app.
Is building with AI cheaper than hiring a developer?
Yes, when the prototype can be kept. About the same, when it has to be rebuilt. This is our reading of sellers' published prices, not a measured result.
The one check is to go through the app part by part and ask what stays. Our guide to keeping, fixing or rebuilding shows how.
How much it costs to build an AI app comes down to the second bill. Weighing AI app development cost against a developer's quote? Our reading: the rebuild row is close to a build from scratch. If you want a person priced, read How much an app developer costs.
The cheap case is real too. A founder on r/replit (1 April 2026) reported "$4,100 total on Replit over 13 months" for five live products, about $3,800 of it usage charges. It is one founder's account, not research.
What do the other AI builders cost?
Entry prices run from $8 to $30 a month, and every builder has the same second bill (vendors' pricing pages, read 24 October 2026).
- Bolt: $18 a month, billed annually (pricing).
- Replit: Core is $18 a month, billed annually (pricing).
- Base44: Starter is $16 a month, billed annually (pricing).
- v0: Plus is $30 per user per month (pricing).
- Cursor: Plus is $8 a month, but only Grok models are available on it. Premium is $30 a month and adds third-party models, billed by usage (pricing).
- Claude Code: not on Claude's Free plan. Claude Pro is $20 a month if billed monthly, or $17 billed annually, and includes Claude Code (pricing).
Building an app with Claude Code costs the same two bills: the tool each month, then the work to make the app ready for real users.

How do you keep both bills down?
Check six things before you pick a tool, and check what can stay before you pay anyone to fix it.
- Can you export the code, and do you own it?
- Is the database in your own account?
- Can it handle your kind of login and payments?
- Can it reach the app stores, if you need them?
- How fast do credits run down when you change things? (Why AI builder credits run out)
- What does it cost at 100 users, and at 1,000?
