By the numbers, the gap is wide. 174 Upwork jobs name Lovable and 14 name Bolt (16,363 jobs, 7–9 Oct 2026; posted budgets, one marketplace). Of the founder jobs to fix or finish an app, none names Bolt as the tool it was built on.

Lovable vs Bolt: what's the difference?
On price they match. Both start at $25 a month, and the free plans differ in how they count.

Two things sit outside the table. Lovable makes web apps only. Bolt can make Expo projects (Expo is a way to build phone apps), and one user rebuilt theirs as a web app "after seeing the publishing costs" (Reddit, Jan 2026).
Do they build the same app equally well?
In the one independent same-brief test we found, yes. Both met every requirement.
- AI Alleyway, Oct 2026. The same six-requirement brief, on free accounts. Both Lovable and Bolt met all six. Lovable finished in 109 seconds. It's one test, one brief, run by one reviewer. Medium.
- AIMultiple, Apr 2026. A same-prompt test across many builders. Lovable scored 18/20, the highest in that test. We haven't cited a Bolt score from it, so it shows where Lovable stood in that test, not a gap between the two. Medium.
- NoCode MBA. A course seller's page says Bolt is faster and Lovable is better for beginners and Supabase. It's one seller's view, so we give it one line.
Neither test follows an app through months of changes. They tell you what a first build looks like, not how the tool copes as the app grows.
How far apart are they with founders?
Far apart. Bolt's share has fallen the most. Lovable's fell too, as coding agents rose, and it's still far ahead.
- Hiring. 174 Upwork jobs name Lovable and 14 name Bolt, out of 16,363 (7–9 Oct 2026).
- Founder jobs. 84 name Lovable and 4 name Bolt.
- Fix or finish. Of 2,779 founder jobs that named the tool their app was built with, 59 name Lovable and none name Bolt as the existing build.
- Founder talk (Medium). Of founder posts that name a tool, Bolt's share went 15% in Q4 2025, 11%, 6%, then 3% in Q3 2026.
- Lovable's share (Medium). 34% to 24%, after a 40% peak in Q1 2026. Claude Code's share went from 5% to 19% over the same quarters.

What changed at Bolt this year?
Its first agent is gone, and it has bought a company.
- 3 Aug 2026. Bolt retired its first agent and Discussion Mode. Bolt's release notes.
- 29 Sep 2026. Bolt bought Dokai, its first acquisition. Business Wire's release calls Dokai a San Francisco AI startup that built autonomous agents for sales workflows, such as prospect research and CRM updates. Terms weren't disclosed. Bolt's own release, a paid press release on Business Wire.
- Revenue. The last public figure is from March 2025. There's no newer one. The report has it.
What does each cost in a real month?
The plan price is $25 on both. The bill depends on how you use it.
- Lovable counts credits. Each message to the tool uses credits. Pro includes 100 a month.
- Bolt counts tokens. Pro includes 10M a month, and unused tokens roll over. The free plan gives 300k a day.

Is Bolt still worth using in 2026?
For some people, yes. It depends on what you want from the tool.
- Where Bolt does well. Quick builds and landing pages. A builder reported a full site with menu and several pages in under an hour. It suits people who like to see and edit the code in the browser.
- Where it may not suit. If you want the biggest community and the most people to ask for help, the numbers above point to Lovable: more founders talk about it and more people list it when they hire.
- What to watch. Builders report regressions in large projects (Reddit, Jul 2026) and say support is slow to answer (Reddit, May 2026). Both are single voices.

Can you move off either?
You can take your code, but the database is the harder part, on both.
- Lovable. Code syncs to GitHub. Its Lovable Cloud database has no one-click move to your own Supabase.
- Bolt. Users report that Bolt v2 limited outside databases (Reddit, Oct 2025). Another worried about moving a mature app off Bolt Cloud's database to Supabase (Reddit, Mar 2026).
