Replit or Lovable: which should you build on?

The Onekode team·

Pick Lovable for a web app you want built fast and polished. Pick Replit if you need the app stores, or want your code and hosting in one place. Both bill by use, so the plan price isn't the bill.

Last checked: 17 October 2026. We recheck prices and tool facts every month.

Side by side

Replit vs Lovable: what's the difference?

Lovable makes web apps only. Replit makes web and mobile apps. Both charge by use.

Both are builders: you give them a plain-language brief and they return a running app, with login, database and hosting built in. The differences are in what they build, how they bill and what you can take with you.

Your app

Which one for your app?

Choose by what you're building, not by which one is louder online. If you're not sure what kind of app you have, start with whether it needs to be in the app stores.

Pick Replit if…Pick Lovable if…
You need your app in the App Store. Replit builds mobile apps with Expo (Replit says). It's a web app or portal and you want a first version fast.
You want code, database and hosting in one workspace. You want your code synced to GitHub in both directions, so a developer can pick it up.
A developer may take over later and you want the code to download or put on Git.A web-only app is enough for now. Plan the database move for later: it has no one-click exit.

What it costs

What does each cost in a real month?

More than the plan price. Replit Core is $20 and Lovable Pro is $25 (17 October 2026), but Replit bills by effort and Lovable counts credits, so a busy month costs more on either.

Both have a free plan, so you can try the same brief on each before you pay. No independent test has compared a full month of real building on the two. What founders report:

  • Replit. "spent over $300 in replit credits building it. I've now transferred the app to being built on my local computer using Claude Code" (Reddit r/replit, Apr 2026, a builder). Another stays: "while it's more expensive than Claude Code and others I have stuck with it out of convenience." (Reddit r/replit, May 2026, a builder)
  • Lovable. "started with Lovable (wasted $500+ in credits, broke the app beyond repair)" (Reddit r/ClaudeCode, Jun 2026, a builder with no coding experience). On the other side: "Lovable is well worth the money for a subscription" (Trustpilot, Oct 2026, a builder, 5 stars).

Mobile

Can either one put your app in the app stores?

Replit can; Lovable can't. Replit builds mobile apps with Expo and can publish them to the App Store (Replit says). Lovable makes web apps only.

A founder in a Facebook group asked it plainly: "Has anyone built a native iOS/Android app with Lovable? Would you recommend it over Rork or Base44?" (Facebook group, Oct 2026, a builder)

If your app needs the stores and you'd rather stay on Lovable, you'd need a different route for the phone version. If a web app is enough for launch, this row doesn't matter yet.

Can you leave?

Can you leave later?

Yes on both, with work. Your code moves. The database is the hard part.

Your codeYour database
ReplitDownload it or connect GitFounders report the database and secrets are the hard part
LovableGitHub sync and exportOn Lovable Cloud: no one-click move to your own database

Not every founder finds it easy. A Replit user writes: "now I cannot move projects away from Replit" (Trustpilot, Jun 2026, a builder).

Whichever you pick, the habit that makes leaving easier is the same.

On day one: keep your code on your own GitHub, use your own database where the tool lets you, and open every account in your name.

From the people who build on them

Where do founders get stuck on each?

On Lovable it's changes that break things and the move off. On Replit it's the bill and the pace.

  • Lovable. "After months of development, repeated regressions and support tickets" (Trustpilot, Sep 2026, a builder, 1 star). And: "I moved my Lovable app to Cloudflare + Supabase and made it production ready. It was not a simple switch" (Reddit r/VibeCodeCamp, Sep 2026, a builder).
  • Replit. "Replit felt like it was built for developers" (Reddit r/nocode, Aug 2026, a builder with no coding experience). And: "Suddenly changing what model it uses halfway through a task is now a thing." (Reddit r/replit, Sep 2026, a builder).

On the first draft, commenters say Lovable's looks more polished and Replit's plainer (founders say, Reddit r/replit, Dec 2025).

From our data

What does the hiring market say?

More founders hire help for Lovable: 174 Upwork jobs name it and 63 name Replit.

  • Jobs naming the tool. Lovable 174, Replit 63, of 16,363 Upwork jobs. Collected 7–9 Oct 2026. Posted budgets on one marketplace, not prices paid. Our count.
  • Founders asking for a built app to be fixed or finished, by the tool it was built with. Lovable 59, Replit 24, of 2,779 founder jobs. Onekode coding of founder jobs on Upwork, October 2026.

Questions

Questions.

Is Replit or Lovable better for beginners?

For a web app, Lovable is the builder founders name most (36% of builder stack posts, our sample, Oct 2025 to Oct 2026). It builds a running app from a plain brief. Replit suits beginners who need the app stores or want code and hosting together; one builder says it "felt like it was built for developers" (Reddit, Aug 2026).

Which one can make an app for the App Store?

Replit. It builds mobile apps with Expo and can publish them to the App Store (Replit says). Lovable makes web apps only; its phone app is for building your app, not for the app you make. Checked 17 October 2026. If the stores matter, start on Replit or pick another route.

Which costs less in a real month?

Replit's plan is cheaper ($20 against $25), but both bill by use, so the month depends on how much you build. Replit bills by effort, Lovable by credits. Founders report $300 on Replit and $500 or more on Lovable (Reddit, 2026). No independent test compares a full month on both.

Can I move my app off Replit or Lovable?

Yes, with work. Lovable syncs your code to GitHub, but on Lovable Cloud the database has no one-click move. Replit lets you download your code or connect Git; founders report the database and secrets are the hard part. Keep your code on your own GitHub from day one.

Which is better for a bigger app?

Neither is enough alone once payments, several kinds of user or sensitive data come in. Replit gives you a real code workspace and Lovable a two-way GitHub sync, so either can hand over to a developer. In our Upwork data, most Lovable and Replit jobs are founders asking for a built app to be finished.

Can I use both?

Yes, in turn. Try the same brief on each, since both start from plain words. Moving a live app is harder: Lovable Cloud's database stays behind. Replit's own page says "Build with Lovable. Grow with Replit." (a vendor claim). You can take the code out of either, through GitHub or a download; the database is the part that needs work.
